TEAM MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES
You will be the main contact for all players and carers in your team. You are the conduit between the players, carers, and the coach. All feedback must be provided through you to the coach. Carers should feel confident they can discuss any concerns or queries with you. To seek clarity on any feedback raised by the carer, please consult your coach.
You may either share the game day details each week, or direct the team to PlayHQ. Please remember to check back at the end of the week in case there have been any location or time changes. Coburg Basketball Association are responsible for fixtures.
You are also the conduit between your team and the club. Often the club will send out information or updates to teams and this is communicated through you to the team (for example, game cancellations or changes, events, registrations, etc.). The club recommends setting up a chat group such as WhatsApp for group comms.
If players or carers have concerns or feedback regarding issues outside of the team that cannot be addressed by the coach, you may pass them on to the Team Managers Liaison, Melissa Davis.
GAME DAY EXPECTATIONS
All players are expected to arrive at the venue 15 min prior to the game for warm up.
Please communicate to all players and carers that they must notify you if a player is unavailable to play a game. You then need to advise the coach. Occasionally, when less than 5 players are available for a game, you may need to find another player to make up the team. If so, please inform the coach who will make contact with President Rosie Valentine to source another player from the age group below. When players are filling in from a lower-age group, you are required to complete an Indemnification Form. Once completed, please submit to the Team Managers Liaison, Melissa, prior to the game. Failure to comply will result in a Club fine ($100) and the respective player cannot take the court. If you need assistance, please ask Melissa. Please note, a player can only be nominated to ‘play up’ in one team in that age group. They are not permitted to ‘play up’ across multiple teams. Additionally, players can not play across in the same age group.
SCORING EXPECTATIONS
Coburg have implemented an iPad scoring system at all venues. Prior to the start of the game, the Team Manager will need to ensure all players have been added to the iPad and that singlet numbers are correct. It is encouraged that you set up a scoring roster for all carers to participate throughout the season. This will develop all carers’ confidence with scoring and enhance knowledge on the rules of the game. Children will also benefit by seeing their carers engaged in their sport. You can refer to the following video link to help guide anyone through the scoring process. A hard copy will also be emailed to you.
TRAINING EXPECTATIONS
Please ensure your players arrive on time each week for training. Please ask carers to advise you if their child cannot train, and in turn inform the Coach. Players must respect others during both training and games. The Team Manager is responsible to mediate in the event of inappropriate behaviour.
If you have a junior coach (a coach under the age of 18), it is the team’s responsibility to ensure there is an adult present at all training sessions. On the occasion an adult is unable to be present, please contact Rosie Valentine to organise an alternative arrangement.
It is the joint responsibility of the Team Manager and Coach to ensure all kids are picked up at the end of training and not left unsupervised at stadiums.
PLAYER AND PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT
A MESSAGE FROM COBURG BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
A zero-tolerance policy is applied against any inappropriate or abusive behaviour from carers, spectators, players, coaches and officials to ensure a safe and enjoyable playing experience for all players and participants.
At no stage is anyone other than the coach to approach a referee with a complaint. If there are concerns, as Team Manager you are to find the court supervisor (orange top) and discuss with them in a calm manner. If there is no satisfactory resolution then you will need to write up an incident report via our Incident Report form within 48 hours of the incident for the club to follow up. Please do not contact Coburg Basketball Association directly.
The report must include the following:
Any carer, spectator, player or coach who feels it necessary to persistently or wilfully question or challenge the rulings of the referees, berate or abuse players, berate or abuse other carers or spectators, or display conduct which is inappropriate in a sporting environment will be asked to leave the venue immediately. Failure to leave when requested will result in the supervisor taking appropriate action to safeguard the safety of players, coaches, spectators, officials, and carers. No warnings need be given in the event of the above action becoming necessary.
A carer, spectator, player, or coach who has been requested to leave an event may be suspended directly or required to attend a hearing. It should be noted that any repeated inappropriate behaviour by a parent, player, spectator or coach will result in a tribunal or disciplinary action by the administrator. All spectators, carers, coaches, officials, and players must accept responsibility for their behaviour. All incidents will be documented by the supervisor.
ESCALATION PROCESS
You are required to escalate any inappropriate incidents to your coach. In the unlikely event the coach does not respond accordingly, you must escalate the incident to the Jets President, Rosie Valentine.
